2008 Mankato Farmer's Market Now Open!

The Mankato Farmer's Market is now open for the season. Come to Madison East Center in Mankato Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. till noon to buy Otisco Valley beef, chicken and pork products.

Good news! Our prices are unchanged from last year (except for N.Y. Strip, which has gone up 50 cents).

With all the talk about globalization, why buy your meat from who knows where? Tom Klug and his family have been raising cattle for three generations near Waseca, Minnesota, in the heart of some of the richest farmland in America.

We raise Holstein crosses, also known as dairy cattle. Many steakhouses, fast food restaurants and supermarkets will try to sell the public on Angus or another type of "name-brand" beef, but those of us raised on farms in the Midwest know the superiority and quality of our own dairy cattle.

Unlike factory farms where most of America's meat comes from, we do not force our animals to eat an unnatural, corn-based diet. Instead, we carefully select a grain and forage mix and do not use hormones or antibiotics in the feed. The result is a healthier animal and tastier, less fat meat.

So just where is the Otisco Valley?

This is a question that, frankly, no one has ever asked us. That's because the folks who buy from us are local folks just like us, so they know where we come from.

It's actually in the general region of Waseca, Minnesota. But if you're not from the area, you can find the Otisco Valley on Google Maps.
